Solace Women’s Aid and Roll Nine Productions are incredibly proud that our film depicting what it’s like to survive domestic violence has been shortlisted in the UK Content Awards, Outreach Campaign of the Year.

We know that women across London are experiencing domestic and sexual violence right now.

Whatever form violence comes in, from relationships based on psychological or financial control to rape and trafficking, Solace Women’s Aid works to end it.

Solace needed an outreach film that would help communicate what the charity does, why they need support and how they can transform and save lives.

They wanted a film that clearly put staff and service users at the heart of the story and while many have had to remain anonymous for safety reasons, we know how much it meant to the women in the film to be part of it to help raise awareness of Solace’s work.

Rosie, a Solace Staff member and Bunmi Idumu, who both feature in the film and will be in attendance at the UK Content Awards this year fled domestic abuse and lived in a Solace refuge. She told us:

‘I’m so proud of the film. I watched it again and again. I am ever so grateful I got the opportunity to do this. Solace Women’s Aid helped me get here today. They helped me find hope to live, when all hope seemed lost.’

Roz Wyllie, Media and Communications Manager at Solace said:

‘We commissioned Roll Nine to work on our charity Film having worked with Kirsty and Roll Nine on a number of projects, knowing she has an understanding and a sensitivity to our work and the women and girls that we support.’

Roll Nine has a track record of working with vulnerable contributors and put together an all female crew and production team to work across making this powerful film. Kirsty Malcolm, Founder and Producer at Roll Nine said:

Personally as a Producer and Director this is the film I’m most proud of to date in my career. The interviews we did that day were heartbreaking, powerful and inspiring and will be ones I’ll never forget. To tell the stories of these inspirational and brave women and do them justice was a huge responsibility and a privilege. ’

We’re incredibly proud that the film has helped Solace with their outreach efforts and that it’s been viewed well over 60,000 times on Vimeo alone, offering hope and inspiration to organiations encouraging them to support Solace as well as women seeking support and a way out of domestic violence.

It has also helped Solace with bids and tenders and in showing funders and commissioners what the charity does.
